THE FALL IN NON-AGRICULTURAL EMPLOYMENT HAS STOPPED

Seyfettin Gürsel and Arda Aktaş

According to the TURKSTAT labor force statistics released on September 15th, the non-agricultural labor force has decreased by 4 thousand and the non-agricultural employment increased by 113 thousand. However, these changes in the labor force statistics are mostly driven by the seasonal fluctuations. [1] Once deseasonalized, the series show that the non-agricultural labor force decreased by 17 thousand while the non-agricultural employment rose only by 4 thousand in June. The decline in the non-agricultural labor force may suggest that the added worker effect is disappearing. Moreover the fall in non-agricultural employment seems to have stopped in June.

[1] The dots in figure 1 represent the data belongs to June in every year.
